MAVFD HISTORY

-

The Mt. Aetna Volunteer Fire Department was founded in 1969 then incorporated in 1971. We proudly protect approximately 3500 people living in a 35 square mile region. The area in which we serve is a fast growing district of Washington County that is primarily residential. Our department is a public department whose members are on a combination of paid and volunteer status.

We serve Interstate 70 from the Frederick County line to the Route 40 bridge. We have four major attractions in our first due area (besides the wonderful Western Maryland landscape); Greenbrier State Park, the Mason Dixon Drag strip, Beaver Creek Country Club, and the Black Rock Golf Course.

Our EMS is provided by the Boonsboro Rescue Squad, Smithsburg Emergency Medical Services and Community Rescue Service.
